This certificate has been designed by the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership to assist students in becoming competent, employable professionals, capable of making significant contributions to the field. The graduate curriculum provides its students with exposure to a wide range of emerging technologies, while still ensuring the basic competencies required of all practitioners. In this way, the program directly addresses the rapidly accelerating changes in the field of new media technologies. This certificate is only available to individuals who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree. This certificate is an independent award, separate from a Master’s Degree. The certificate may be earned individually or, the course schedule allows that the e-Learning Certificate may be completed simultaneously with a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology without requiring any additional courses.

Procedures for applying for the e-Learning Certificate

Follow these steps regardless of whether or not you are currently a student in The University of Akron Graduate School, but you must have previously completed a bachelor’s degree:


1. Application to The University of Akron Graduate School
The e-Learning certificate requires that you apply for admission to the Graduate School and select the e-Learning Certificate as your objective.
This is required even if you are currently enrolled in the Graduate School.
The application is performed entirely online through the Graduate School at the Certificate Program Application page.

The application fee is between $25 and $40, payable with a credit card through the secure website, with the amount dependent upon your status as a student.
Upon completing the application process, the student will receive an email from the Graduate School indicating successful completion of the application.
After a review of the student’s information, the Graduate School will send an email of acceptance to the program or one outlining any additional steps required for
acceptance.

2. Transcripts*

If the student’s Bachelor Degree was received from a different institution than The University of Akron:

Official transcript must be submitted to the Graduate School from each college or university attended.

The student will need to follow the required steps of their previous institution and have the transcript sent to:

*If the student received their Bachelor Degree from The University of Akron, or is currently a student in the Graduate School, there is no need to submit a transcript.


3. e-Learning Certificate program plan

In addition to the application to the certificate program via the Graduate School, the student is required to meet with an advisor to develop and sign a program plan

outlining the courses to be taken for completion of the certificate.

This can be scheduled through the office of Educational Foundations and Leadership, Zook Hall, Room 301. The advisor for the certificate program is Dr. Cheryl

Ward.

The e-Learning Certificate requires 16 semester credit hours.

4. Graduation – receiving the e-Learning Certificate
  1. Before the term in which you will graduate, it is recommended that you perform a DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) report to identify that you have completed all of the requirements for the certificate.

  2. The Graduate School has begun all online graduation applications so you need to login to Zipline at zipline.uakron.edu using your UANet ID and Password.

  3. In the "Student Center" section of the site, select "Apply for Graduation" from the "other academics..." pull-down menu.

  4. Follow the directions supplied and submit your application.

  5. Important!: This must be completed by the application deadline available on the University Academic Calendar or from the student’s advisor.
